I always end up using the button inside the car to open the charging port because every time I try to tap the latch, it barely ever opens. On rare occasions, it does work. Is this just me or is this happening to others too?
It’s more of a press than a tap on this car. There’s an actual switch inside the cover, it’s not like a haptic touch thing.

Yeah, I should’ve said pressing instead of tapping. I definitely push on the latch, but it still doesn’t open.
@MAKENA
If the car’s been sitting for a while and you haven’t unlocked it recently, it won’t open. It’s a security feature. If I’m in the garage and don’t have the key, I just open and close the door quickly to wake the car.
@MAKENA
Got it. I’ve seen videos where people say the indent on the cover doesn’t always line up with the switch inside.
Try opening the latch and make sure you can actually feel the switch working. Then close it and slowly press in different spots to find where it triggers. It can be a bit tricky.

The car has to be unlocked for the latch to work too.
The car has to be ‘awake’ for the charging port to respond when you press it. If the car has been off for a while, it goes to sleep, and won’t register the press.
You can wake it up by unlocking the doors or opening and closing any door, then it should work. Though to be honest, the door gets so dirty that I usually just use the button on the dashboard.
@Michael
Yeah, I hate leaving fingerprints on the little door ><
Is it similar to the EV9 where the vehicle has to be unlocked to open the charge port?

Not sure about the EV9, but with my EV6, whether it’s locked or unlocked doesn’t seem to matter. The tapping rarely works.
@MAKENA
Tapping always works for me, but only if I have the key on me and I press the unlock button on the fob first.
@MAKENA
For me, I have about 30 seconds after I press the unlock button to open the charging door. If I miss that window, I have to unlock it again.
@MAKENA
You have to wake up the car first by opening a door. Happens to me all the time. Tap the charge door, nothing happens, but if I open and close a door, then the charging door works.
It has to be recently unlocked for the charge door to work.
It’s so frustrating that the car can sense me standing behind it to open the tailgate but doesn’t do the same when I’m trying to open the charge door. Every time, I have to dig out the key and press unlock.
It’s a bit tricky until you get the hang of it. You need to put firm pressure on the charge port door, pressing down at the right spot to trigger the switch inside. There’s a small pill-shaped mark on the door that shows where to press. Make sure you feel the door move inward under your finger—that’s when it should work.
Same here. The button always works, but sometimes the manual push doesn’t. I’ve used the manual release a couple of times when it’s been really stubborn.
Mine won’t open unless I have my key with me. But the button inside the car always works.
You only have a short time to open the charging door after turning off the car. If it’s been sitting for more than a minute, try opening and closing a door, then you should be able to open the charge port.
I got tired of how inconsistent it was, so I just use the button inside the car now.
I’ve noticed that if the car has been unlocked for a while (my wife doesn’t lock it in the garage), I need to either use the remote to unlock it or the dashboard button to open the charge door.
