EV Charging Infrastructure… Are things really improving?

Mercedes and Tesla’s charging networks are expanding fast. Pilot’s also growing their EVgo partnership.

I heard that the Pilot-EVgo-GM partnership ended. Saw it on Out of Spec.

@jeff
Actually, they opened 8 new stations just in the past couple of days.

@jeff
They are still adding stations, but yeah, prices are high.

Are you mostly looking at Electrify America? There are about 100 new DC fast chargers going live each month nationwide.

I’ve been checking EVgo as well.

Try PlugShare; there are more options than just EA and EVgo.

You’re missing out if you’re only looking at two networks. Many lesser-known options tend to be less crowded.

There are thousands of chargers in your area. It’s actually one of the best regions for EV charging. Maybe try a different network and an EV with NCAS support if needed.

Anyone tried the charging stations at the service plazas along I-87? The ones run by Applegreen?

I checked PlugShare, and you’ve got over 100 chargers around 175kW nearby. Be glad you’ve got such a good network!

Supercharger access should open for you by January 2025. How long do you typically wait if chargers are full? A short wait isn’t ideal, but if you’re only delayed a few minutes, it’s manageable given how fast you can charge once plugged in.

Getting an EV that can use the Tesla network is a big plus. Ford, GM, Rivian, and others have access to those chargers now. While there’s some federal funding building more infrastructure, access to Tesla’s network really helps cover gaps.

Volvo and Polestar are part of that group too.

If you’re buying soon, check which EVs have adapters or access right now versus those that ‘plan’ to have it.

True, but you’re likely buying a car to keep for years, so waiting a few months for a Rivian adapter isn’t too bad. Whether Kia gets access in January or March 2025 won’t make a huge difference in the long term.

@jabali
Some people want EVs now and don’t want to wait. Those with access and adapters available now offer the most convenience.

It’s just a short wait until Kia can access Superchargers. But yes, a Tesla could solve those charging issues right now, and there are good deals coming up.

Just got my A2Z Tesla adapter for our C40. Excited to try it!
