The price should reflect speed. If the 50kW charger costs the same as a faster one, there’s no incentive to use it. Circuit électrique is much cheaper than Electrify Canada, so it makes sense.
I think you’re right. Some Circuit électrique locations have different prices for different speeds, if I’m remembering correctly.
@Nathan
Yep, their pricing system is a bit confusing, but the idea is good, and they’re trying to make things fair. Here’s a link to their pricing details: Cost of charging (until april 01, 2024)
I had a similar experience this summer with my Ioniq 5. We stopped at a 300kW charger at a McDonald’s, and before we even finished eating, the car was charged to 95%. In cases like that, it’s great to have faster chargers. But for a longer stop, I’d rather use a slower charger and not feel rushed.
Congrats on figuring out the EV charging nuances! It’s a great comeback for ICE drivers who think EV charging is inconvenient. Managing your time while charging is so much better than dealing with gas stations and crappy food.
I think 25-50kW chargers are the ‘missing middle’ in charging. Level 2 destination charging feels too slow, but 50kW is ideal for a shopping or meal stop.
Thanks for your service! I’ve always said we need a mix of charging options. When traveling with my family, a 50-100kW charger is perfect for meal stops. But if we just need a quick break, a 150kW charger is better. It depends on the situation.
We have a regular road trip through a remote area, and I often choose a small location with two 50kW chargers over a newer, busier station. The smaller station is reliable, and we can get snacks and drinks while the car charges. It’s worth skipping the crowded, inconsistent fast chargers.
I’ve had EVs for over 10 years, and my current one charges at 200kW with 600km of range. Honestly, I don’t like it. It’s too fast! I used to enjoy taking a break while the car charged, but now I feel rushed.
