ICCU failure finally bit me

Last week, I got the dreaded ‘Check electric vehicle system’ followed by ‘Stop vehicle, check power system’ errors. Took it to the dealer, and they confirmed I need a new ICCU. This morning they called saying the new part they got was defective right out of the box. They said it’ll take another week to get a replacement. Has anyone else heard of this happening? I’m concerned that if a brand-new unit is already failing, maybe something else is wrong. Or, is the dealer just giving me a runaround?

Also, not feeling super confident in this service advisor. First thing he asked me when I pulled in was, ‘Just an oil change?’ And then he described the ICCU as a ‘sensor’ with some hesitation while trying to explain it.

EDIT: For clarity, I didn’t get the software update before this happened.

My EV6 has been at the dealer since early July. It took them a week just to test and retest while talking to tech support. My service advisor ignores my calls, and I’ve reached out to Kia customer service multiple times. Finally, they escalated it and started the buyback process. Now, I’m just waiting after sending them all my service docs and sales contract. Might have to get a lemon law attorney involved.

Don’t feel bad about missing the software update. I got the update, and my ICCU still failed a month later. The fix took about ten days. Hopefully, it’s a one-time issue.

Same thing happened to me. My 12v battery died, got the update, then a month later got the ‘Stop driving’ warning and had the ICCU replaced. It’s been fine since then. Good luck with your second ICCU!

That’s concerning. I guess it’s possible to get a faulty new part, but this ICCU recall really worries me, even though I did get the software update. Did you get the recall fixed before it failed?

I didn’t, and that’s on me. I’m rarely home in the summer and thought I could wait until fall to get it fixed. Clearly, I should’ve handled it sooner.

You might want to add that to your original post, since people are anxious about whether the software fix actually works.

What year and how many miles? Any issues with the 12v battery?

It’s a 2022 model with 20,000 miles, and no 12v issues until the error popped up.

Are you charging at 48 amps at home?

It’s rare for a brand-new unit to fail, but it can happen. Let’s hope it wasn’t an installation mistake and they can swap it out quickly.

I got the ‘Check Electric Vehicle System’ message on Friday. Drove it straight to the dealer. Waiting to hear what they say today.

Only 13k miles on mine. Thankfully, warranties are a thing!

Our EV6 sat at the dealer for weeks while the techs confirmed it was the ICCU, and then it got caught in a hailstorm waiting for the new part—dealership wasn’t responsible for the damage. We had to switch out the 12v battery to an AGM type eventually. Fast forward, and 10 months later, the car is totaled due to incompetent repairs.

That’s awful, I’m so sorry. I guess my situation isn’t so bad in comparison.

Thanks. Yeah, it sucks being without your car, especially when it affects your livelihood. Hopefully, they get your ICCU sorted soon.

Dealerships still don’t know much about EVs. It’s like talking to dinosaurs about evolution. They just don’t get it.
