Is the lack of a rear wiper a big deal?

Thinking about buying a used EV6 to replace my 2022 Outback. The Outback has been great, especially with its wagon-style design. But I’m concerned about the EV6 not having a rear wiper. I live in Southern Ontario, so we get all kinds of weather—rain, snow, slush, you name it. I use my rear wiper a lot for visibility.

For those of you who own an EV6, is this just a minor adjustment or a major issue? How does it handle in bad weather?

I live in rainy Oregon, and honestly, the lack of a rear wiper hasn’t been an issue for me at all. The slope of the rear window helps water slide off naturally.

The slope of the EV6’s rear window is much steeper than something like the Ioniq 5, so snow doesn’t really build up back there.

I’m in Michigan and thought I’d miss having a rear wiper, but it’s bothered me far less than I expected. Snow melts pretty quickly with the rear defrost, so it’s not a big deal.

I’ve only had mine for about a month and a half, and it’s rained a lot since then. I haven’t had any issues with visibility or rain sticking to the window. While parked, water will collect, but once you start driving, it slides right off.

Coming from an F-150 with no rear wiper, I barely notice the EV6 doesn’t have one. If you’re used to having one, it might take a little adjustment, but for me, it’s not even on my list of must-haves.

No issues for me. The combination of the spoiler and the slope of the rear window does the job.

I live in the Netherlands, where it rains all year. Honestly, it hasn’t been a problem. The aerodynamics of the EV6 kind of take care of it. Wind force helps clear most of the water as you drive.

Would it be nice to have a rear wiper? Sure. But I’ve found it’s not necessary. The design of the car handles it well.

I’ve had my EV6 for over a year and driven 32k miles. Rain or snow hasn’t been an issue.

The one thing that annoys me is after a car wash. Water tends to pool on the rear glass and leaves streaks as it dries. A rear wiper with a fluid nozzle would solve that problem, but it’s more of a cosmetic thing than anything functional.

I’ve been through Florida monsoons with no issues. Occasionally, the cameras get spotted, but that’s about it.

Despite what reviews said, I’ve had no issues even in heavy snow or rain. If you’re driving on dusty or muddy roads a lot, you might notice it more, though.

The Ioniq 5 needs a rear wiper because its rear window is almost vertical. The EV6’s slope naturally sheds water, so it hasn’t been an issue for me. I’ve never once wished it had a wiper.

Rain-X is a lifesaver! I even use it on the backup camera lens. Haven’t missed having a rear wiper at all.
