Just got a great lease on a 2024 two weeks ago from a dealer that seemed eager to make a deal! Loving most things about it, and I just had a level 2 charger installed, so I’m set for charging.
I noticed a fan running while charging in my garage. It wasn’t on when I started charging, but I heard it about an hour later, then it shut off after a few minutes.
I also briefly heard the fan while driving, almost like the AC fan turned up to full blast, but I hadn’t touched it. It stopped after a minute.
Is this normal? I haven’t come across anyone else mentioning this.
Yep, normal. The fan kicks in when the battery needs cooling. Also, if you have the auto dehumidifier setting on, the AC fan might start on its own sometimes.
The fan during charging sounds like it’s cooling the battery. I’ve heard it on our Niro EV too, especially while charging or after a long drive on a hot day.
You could check a diagram of the engine compartment to see which fan it is.
Thanks, everyone! As a new EV owner, it’s still a little unsettling when the car is running something in my closed garage. Muscle memory from my gas car days is strong!
