Hey, I just got a 2024 Kia Niro EV Wave for around $40k. Any tips, tricks, or maintenance stuff I should know about? Appreciate any advice
We’ve had our 2023 model for over a year now, and the only thing we’ve had to do is scheduled maintenance (which has been free). The main trick I can think of is battery preconditioning. Make sure it’s turned on in the settings and set both the charger and destination in the navigation. It really helps, especially on long trips. I regularly pull 86kW and taper to 65kW all the way to 80%. Also, you should switch your dash cluster to sync with the time and weather. It’s way cooler than the default display linked to the drive modes.
@Ronald
How do you change the dash cluster to sync with time and weather?

Go to Settings > Vehicle settings > Cluster. You’ll find it in there.

Awesome! Thanks so much.

Do you know if there’s a quicker way to start preconditioning? I hate using the built-in navigation and usually stick to CarPlay. Wish there was a simple button for it.

Unfortunately, the only way to get it to trigger is by adding the charger in the navigation. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it does work.
I got the same car back in March and love it! On long trips, it takes about 45 minutes to charge from 20% to 80% with DC fast charging. At home, I use a Level 2 charger and usually charge once a week. I only charge to 80% unless I’m about to take a long trip, then I go to 100%. It’s a great balance of performance and comfort.
Looks great! I’m planning to get one soon, just need to upgrade my electric panel first and then I’m ready!

Unless you’re driving a lot, you might be surprised at how sufficient Level 1 or slow Level 2 charging is for the Niro. It’s incredibly efficient.
@olivia
I drive about 87 miles a day, and I’m spending $500-$600 a month on gas right now, so I’m definitely ready to switch!

I feel you! I switched to EV in 2019 from a gas-guzzling Honda Accord. The peace and quiet, along with home charging, is life-changing. I spend about $8 to charge up versus a ton on gas. You’re going to love it!
@Jason
That sounds amazing! We’re just waiting for the panel upgrade and the charger install, and then we’re all set to make the switch.
@olivia
The efficiency has been incredible with my 2021. I haven’t even needed to upgrade to a Level 2 charger at home!

Which Level 1 charger do you use? Mine didn’t come with one.
@Robert
My dealer hooked me up with a spare Kia Level 1 they had. They didn’t want me stranded without one!

I was getting 4.4 miles per kWh on my first 600-mile trip with my 2020 Niro. I thought about installing a 240v outlet, but honestly, I only drive about 30 miles a day, and Level 1 has been more than enough. If I need a quick top-up, my wife has a 240v I can use.
Congrats! I’d recommend getting a spare donut tire. Your car probably came with just a puncture kit, and that won’t help in every situation.

Just a heads up, the standard Kia donut may not fit over the brake calipers.
Here’s a tip: you can switch between the AC and entertainment controls below the screen. Hold the button for a few seconds, and it’ll default back to your preferred mode after a few seconds.
