Hi all, I’ve gotten this error twice now when plugging into an AC charger. It comes with an ominous message on the dash and an email from Kia Connect. I checked the error with my OBD2 adapter using the Car Scanner app, and it showed a P1AA6 error code, which seems to indicate a failed test.
I cleared the error, but it’s still a bit concerning. I posted more details on the Kia EV Forums, but I’ve only gotten one response so far. Figured I’d share here for more insight.
Your HV system might be in trouble. I’d take it to the dealership without an appointment to have them check it out ASAP. Be prepared to be without the car for a while, or fight for a courtesy vehicle.

Why would it be in trouble? I’ve DC fast-charged over 4 times since the error appeared, and the battery is working fine. I even had a perfect charging session where it held 230 kW for 8 minutes! Seems like an error with the AC charger, especially since it only happened once each time I plugged in.
I ran into something similar over the weekend. I have a 2022 with 15k miles. I usually charge to 80%, but I set it to 100% and got the error in the morning.
Later, I plugged it in again, and it started charging but stopped after only adding 4kWh. Thankfully, I had enough range for my trip.
Tonight, I plugged it in again, and it stopped after just 1.45kWh. I cleared the errors and started charging again. I only use Level 2 charging at home, except for a couple of DC fast charges on road trips. I’ll keep an eye on it.

That sounds like a different issue. Mine stopped charging immediately after plugging in. You might want to take your car to the dealer with the stored DTC so they can apply a TSB that expands the code into something more specific. Someone on Kia EV Forums mentioned the exact TSB for this issue—check out my original post for more details. Hope that helps!

I would have needed a tow to the dealer since it wouldn’t charge, but thankfully it’s working fine now after clearing the DTC.
Funny thing, I got an email about hitting the mileage for maintenance, but when the car throws an error that makes it inoperable, nothing from Kia.

Yeah, I get it. I also cleared the DTC right away since I was on a road trip. Most times you can just clear the code, but it’s still a good idea to get it checked if it happens again. If the error isn’t stored, the service department can’t do much.

Yep, I need to take mine in for maintenance soon. I’ve also been waiting months for them to replace my wireless charger. Seems like the service department is always slow, but that’s pretty standard with most dealerships.
Update: Kia Customer Care opened a case based on the Kia Connect messages. I called them, but they didn’t have much info on the P1AA6 code or TSB ELE290. They said I’d still need to visit the dealer.
Since I cleared the code and haven’t had any issues, I’ll only go to the dealer if the error pops up again. For now, there’s nothing they can do since the code is gone.

Probably best to get it checked out. You don’t want to end up with a brick on your hands.
I cleared the DTC error, so the dealer can’t do anything unless it comes back. Kia issued TSB ELE290 to address this, but it can only be applied if the error is present.
