Question about EV6 Wind Tech Package

Hello! I’m about to buy my first car ever, and I think it’s going to be the EV6 (yay!). I found a dealer offering what seems like a great price — around $39K for the EV6 Wind with the tech package. The only catch is, I’d need to drive 6 hours to get that price. Still, I’m tempted by the discount.

On the dealer’s website, it lists the car with the Wind Technology Package for $1,500, which includes:

  • Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist
  • Surround View Monitor
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor

However, when I click on the car highlights, it only mentions an exterior rear camera. Is there a version of the Wind Tech Package without the 360-degree cameras? Or did the dealer make a mistake? I’m wondering if the lower price is due to missing features.

Thanks in advance for the help! I’m super excited to go electric but a bit nervous about negotiating my first car purchase.

Update: Thanks, everyone, for the helpful info! Turns out the dealership confirmed the package has all the right cameras, but they made a mistake with the pricing. The car is actually $42K, which is what I’m seeing locally too. Looks like I’ll still get the EV6, just not with as much savings as I hoped. Excited to get behind the wheel!

We just bought a 2024 EV6 Wind with the tech package, and it definitely includes all those features. They’re super useful! The only thing I wish it had is a heads-up display (HUD), but that’s only available on the GT-Line. Best of luck with your purchase! We had a Tesla before this, and I don’t miss it.

Former Tesla owner here as well (2019 Model 3 SR+). You made a solid choice with the EV6! Though I will say, the mobile app is a bit of a downgrade compared to Tesla’s. :joy:

Haha, totally agree! The app is the one thing I miss from the Tesla.

If there are photos of the car, see if you can spot a camera in the front grille or on the side mirrors. If those are there, then it definitely has the tech package.

Check if the pictures show 360-degree cameras. If they do, then it’s got the tech package.

That’s a great idea, but unfortunately they’re using stock photos. I’ll give them a call and see what they say.

My dad and sister both have the Wind Tech package, and it for sure includes the 360 cameras and all those safety features. The GT and GT-Line come with Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), which allows automatic lane changes when you hit your blinker.

The implementation in the EV6 isn’t great though. It’s really picky about how much pressure you put on the steering wheel for it to work right. Our EV9 has a better version, which works most of the time without issue.

Haha, I’m currently driving a 2008 Honda Accord, so I think I’m going to be amazed by any tech! Thanks for the info!

You’re going to love it! One of my favorite features is the lane centering assist. You can activate it with the button on the lower left of the steering wheel, and it’s so handy for every drive.

Most cars make you enable cruise control first to use lane centering, but not the EV6. You can use it even when driving around town. The only thing missing from the Wind Tech package is the pop-out door handles. They really should’ve included that.

100% agree on the door handles. I have a GT-Line, and when I rented a Wind recently, I really missed the pop-out handles and 360 cameras. The HUD and HDA2 are nice, but they aren’t must-haves for me.

The lane-keeping in the EV6 can be annoying with how finicky it is about the steering wheel pressure. If you’re willing to spend the money, the Comma 3X system can solve that problem. I have one, and it works great for long drives, even handling lane changes.

My son keeps telling me to get one! I might consider it if they get EV9 support since we have both models.

Honestly, the auto lane change feature is more trouble than it’s worth. It’s way too slow and picky about conditions. I thought it was broken at first because I kept canceling it by putting too much pressure on the wheel! That said, the EV6’s lane centering is great, and it’s less naggy than Tesla’s.

Try entering the car’s VIN on carfax.com, and it should show you the original sticker listing all the features and packages.

By the way, a dealer in Colorado (Ft. Collins Kia) is offering a 2-year lease deal for a Wind AWD (no tech package) at $187/month with 20K miles per year and $1,500 down. That’s with Colorado’s lease incentives, though, so it’s not available everywhere. Seems like they’re clearing out space for the 2025 models.

There isn’t a Wind Tech Package without the 360 cameras. If it has the package, it’s got all the features. Check the side mirrors for the camera—if they’re there, it’s the right package. Send me the link to the car, and I can help you confirm.

Kia tends to bundle features together instead of mixing and matching, so if you get one feature, you get them all. Definitely different from how German companies do things!

That’s interesting because didn’t Hyundai/Kia bring on some German designers to revamp their brand in the 2010s? I’m not disagreeing with you, just curious.

Yeah, I think they hired a designer from Audi or BMW. That’s why the cars look so much better now compared to a decade ago. Except for the new Santa Fe rear end… it reminds me of an old ‘80s Chevy wagon!

Haha, I was referring to how German companies offer so many custom options for features, whereas Kia just bundles them all together.
