Test drove a Mach-E AWD and F150 Lightning today, but the EV6 still wins!

I’m saving up for an EV6 but wanted to test drive some competitors. Today, I drove the Mach-E AWD and F150 Lightning. Here are my thoughts:

Interiors:

  • Mach-E: Pretty nice but felt more confined than the EV6. It was hard to figure out how to change drive modes.
  • F150 Lightning: Obviously spacious, but the design felt a bit boring. I couldn’t get my leg/foot comfortable with the accelerator.

Driving:

  • Mach-E: Didn’t feel as agile as the EV6. I noticed more bumps, and the power delivery felt sluggish.
  • F150 Lightning: It drove like a truck. It was very quiet, and the power was strong—maybe too strong for me since it took off harder than I expected.

Other Notes:

  • Neither of these has paddle shifters like the EV6.

Long story short, I’m crossing these two off my list. The EV6 still feels like the superior choice.

The EV6 GT is an absolute beast, especially after 60 mph. It pulls like a powerful ICE car and just keeps going. I’m excited for the 2025 updates—better interior, upgraded powertrain, and ventilated seats. I might lease another EV6 GT after mine ends.

@Maria
Do you know when the 2025 models will arrive in the US?

Probably by spring next year. Kia seems a bit behind with the EV6 rollout.

Why do you think Kia is behind?

@izael
Maybe because so many are sitting on dealership lots?

I initially wanted the Mach-E because I’ve always driven Fords. While it had more headroom, my knee kept hitting the screen. Plus, the glass roof without shade protection was a dealbreaker. When I test drove the EV6, it was night and day. Coming from an F-150, I wanted to like the Lightning, but the price wasn’t justifiable. I’m 100% happy with my EV6!

Have you tried the Genesis GV60? I test drove both the EV6 and GV60, and I ended up with the Genesis. It does cost more, though.

I haven’t, but it’s likely out of my price range. Thanks for the suggestion!

There are some great deals on used EV6s. You could probably get an AWD Wind model for about half the cost of new if you shop around.

Yep, I’m only looking at used models.

Technically, the EV6 doesn’t have paddle shifters for gears—they’re for adjusting regen levels. Still, I liked both the Mach-E and EV6 when I tested them. I went with the EV6 because I got a better deal, but I thought they were pretty comparable overall. The Mach-E is a bit roomier if you need to haul stuff.

@jeff
Actually, the owner’s manual calls them paddle shifters, even though they don’t shift gears. I use them for regen every day in my other car.

Ah, so they’re ‘shifting’ the regen levels? Makes sense!

@chozen
Exactly. Pulling the paddles changes the regen. I find it super useful.

Gotcha, just having some fun with the semantics!

@jeff
I agree with most of your points, but the EV6 has a way more exciting acceleration in sport mode. The Mach-E didn’t give me the same thrill.

When I test drove the EV6, I floored it in sport mode, and my son said, ‘I didn’t like that!’ afterward. LOL.

One of the best things about the E-GMP platform cars (like the EV6) is how easy it is to change drive modes with a button. I heard you can use voice commands to change modes in the Mach-E, but I haven’t tested that myself.

@MAKENA
Are you saying the Mach-E supports voice control for driving modes?
