Thinking about a used EV6… any advice?

Hi,

I’m searching for a used EV6 AWD as my daily driver. Right now, I’m looking at a 2022 model with 140,000 km or 87,000 miles.

Is the mileage something I should worry about? I believe the battery lasts a long time, and maintenance is generally less than with gas vehicles.

Also, the Kia warranty in Canada is only 8 years or 150,000 km, so the coverage is nearly up given the higher mileage. Is it worth getting an extended warranty?

I’d love to hear from anyone with experiences, especially with higher mileage. What’s maintenance like and what should I check for when looking at the car?

Thanks in advance!

How does the price compare to a low mileage one? Seems like it’s not too hard to find a low mileage one if you can afford it.

It’s under $35k, which is $10k less than a lower mileage EV6 with similar specs.

With that mileage, it better be cheap; otherwise, it should be fine. If the drivetrain hasn’t had issues by 140,000 km, it’s likely okay. I’d suggest getting a third party familiar with EVs to do a pre-purchase inspection; it usually costs about $200. If everything checks out and you like the price, go for it.

As for the extended warranty, it’s not worth it unless you have specific worries.

Make sure all recalls are completed, and if they were done recently, double-check there’s no lasting damage to the ICCU. Also, check alignment. Make sure all sensors and cameras are functioning.

Look at the wheels for dents and cracks, especially on the inside. I had to deal with that for months. It’s not unique to EVs, but the high weight and low sidewalks make them more prone.

I’m not at your mileage yet, but maintenance is really minimal. Mostly just tire rotations and fluid top-ups. Check the transmission fluid for condition and debris; that’s where major mechanical issues will show up.

Thanks for all the detailed info. Your feedback gives me some peace of mind, and I’ll look into hiring someone to help inspect the EV.
