You’ve found a specific use case where EV trucks might not be the best solution… yet.
The Silverado EV can already handle most half-ton work, including range. It just needs to be cheaper.
For heavy-duty work, PHEVs could be a good option in the near future. Once we have megawatt charging with room for trailers, there won’t be any real barriers for full EVs.
It’s just a matter of time. It’s like asking if we’d ever be able to fly internationally after seeing the Wright brothers’ first flight.
Will they ever be EVs? Yes, eventually.
A lot of ‘work trucks’ are really just for show. Plenty of those could be swapped for EVs already—like the trucks used by supervisors who drive from job to job without really hauling anything.
