The important thing is whether it’s from a reliable and established brand. Some Chinese brands like MG have had quality issues, but I’d expect better from brands like Volvo or Mini.
Get the EV that works best for your needs. If you’re okay with Chinese brands, why pay extra for a European badge?
I’d prefer a car made in Europe, but I wouldn’t rule out a Chinese-made one if it’s a better fit for my budget and needs.
This is a fair concern, but what are your alternatives? An ethical argument could be made that a Chinese-made EV is still better for the environment than a European-made ICE car.
If you like the car, just buy it! The location of assembly isn’t something you control—it’s the manufacturer’s decision. Mini profits still support a European company. Would you hesitate to buy a Toyota or Hyundai?
My EV is from a European brand but assembled in China. It doesn’t bother me. The final assembly is just one part of the process. Batteries, steel, and components come from all over anyway.
Have you driven a British-made car before? Just saying as someone from the UK, not all European-made cars are perfect either.

You mean like Toyota Corollas and Nissan Leafs made in the UK? They seem pretty solid.

Mini is more German than British these days. The Oxford plant doesn’t even assemble the electric models.
As a European, I find this whole situation frustrating. EU car makers had years of subsidies to transition but wasted the money. Now they’re losing to China and complaining about it. We deserve better leadership!
