10 month old CPO EV6 GT-Line with 30K miles on it!?

So a dealer is trying to sell me this for $33K. It seems fine and I’m happy it has 4+ years of the warranty left. But 30K miles is a lot for a year isn’t it? CarFAX says it’s for personal use which seems odd.

Correct me if I’m wrong. With the CPO warranty I don’t get an extension of the bumper to bumper warranty so I only have 30K miles left on it right? All the CPO warranty gives me is restoration of the 10-year drivetrain warranty right?

Did the carfax list the sale date? 30k in 10 months would be approximately a 70-mile commute (each direction) 5 days per week. Not insane, but a long commute for sure. One of my coworkers has about that long, but only 3-4 days per week.

True. But they only brought it in once for servicing at 20k miles. No evidence of tire rotation and other stuff.

What maintenance are you expecting to be done at that age and mileage? Have you looked at the maintenance schedule for these cars? It is minimal. If the dealer is replacing the tires, then who cares if the old ones weren’t rotated?

Well, I’d expect at least 3 visits and there was only one.

Every 8,000 miles or 12 months:

  • Rotate tires
  • Initial inspection of climate control air filter
  • Complete a multi-point inspection
  • Inspect brake fluid

There is literally nothing on that list worth caring about in your position. New tires, a cabin filter, and a basic inspection is something you can do yourself. If the dealer looked at the car, replaced the tires, and the $20 cabin filter, you are good as long as you like the car and the price. Your warranty will cover you for the rest.

The dealer inspecting/changing the cabin air filter is complete baloney. You can change it yourself every 20k miles, and it’s $15 on Amazon. Takes under a minute to swap.

Mine is 46, I do it in a Niro-EV.

Well, 30k is only 5 coast-to-coast round trips.

I just worry someone was abusing it. Most people who treat cars nicely don’t drive them 700 miles in a week! Also, it appears they only brought it in once during that period for servicing.

There’s really nothing to service if you read the manual, at least not till 120k. Just tire rotations.

I got my 23 Wind CPO with 22k miles on it with the same qualms. And it was a remote transaction, delivered to my door with new tires added. They are like hen’s teeth around here, so I chose it because it was the exact options that I wanted. I tried to find a sub $25k eligible for a tax discount, but that would have to be a '22.

So far, with 25k+ miles, no problems. I normally only put 6k miles/year, so it should hold its value somewhat. The sticker new was marked up to $71k. I don’t know what the original buyer paid, but I got it for $32k before addons. Our local Kia service confirmed the warranty and are good to work with, so I feel comfortable with my choice.

I would say, be patient and weigh the comparables and dealers.

Thanks for the sage advice. The upper-level trims in my area are rare as hell.

Thanks. But as I read it, the 12 month/12k miles is from my time of purchase. But I have 30K miles left on the factory warranty, so it gets me nothing, right? Or are you saying the 5 year/60k mile warranty gets replaced by the shorter 12 month/12k miles warranty?

Right, I misapplied that.

They had a 75-mile daily round trip. Uncommon but hardly insane.

30,000 miles over 10 months is 3k miles a month or about 700 miles a week. That’s more like a 100-mile commute 7 days a week!

I bought a 23 GT Line AWD and have a 140-mile round trip commute 5 days a week. August 1st marked 1 year and I have 40K on it.

Ask the dealer to tell you the battery status and more info like charging habits (number of fast charges, etc.), battery State of Health, etc. On mine, I drove 22,500 miles in 1 year just because the joy of driving is back after years of Camrys (LOL). I like to drive it and did several long trips. Test drive it and see how it feels.
