Try Belair if they’re available in your area. My rates have been really good with them.
I was with Allstate for over 10 years here in Canada, but with the EV6, I shopped around and went with Desjardins. They insured both my EV6 and Solterra for half of what Allstate was charging. Always compare quotes—it’s worth it!
Just added an EV6 with minimum coverage, which bumped my six-month premium by $250. I’m in the upstate NY-VT area.
I have Esurance (through Allstate) for my 2019 Niro EV. Rates are high across Georgia, but I was happy with them in Tennessee where it was way cheaper.
I was with Allstate, but I switched to Travelers and got more coverage for way less.
Just went through this for our new EV6. Allstate raised our premium a lot, even though they promised that our rates would drop over time. We switched to Geico, which offered a much better rate.

Allstate is something else! They did this to me before I had an EV, too. They count on people not wanting to go through the hassle of switching. Amica stood out to me because they said they could set up a separate linked policy when my daughter turns 25. That way, if she has an accident, it won’t affect my rates. She turns 25 in February, so I’ll be curious to see how that plays out!
I’m in Seattle too, and my coworker had an EV6 with Allstate. They gave her trouble about insuring it even though she had multiple policies with them. She ended up moving to State Farm, which kept her car rate about the same and even lowered her homeowners’ premium.
@Peggy
Yeah, definitely feels like an Allstate problem.
Seems like all insurance companies hike rates at renewal, hoping you won’t bother switching. They probably just use any excuse they can. I’ve resigned myself to switching providers every year now.
