I’m picking up a used 2022 EV6 Wind AWD tomorrow and I’m excited but also a little overwhelmed. This will be my first electric vehicle, so I wanted to ask if you have any tips, tricks, settings recommendations, or general advice for someone new to EVs and the EV6 specifically. I’m also happy to check out any articles or videos you think are worth watching.
Definitely check out u/JeffTechnically, he goes deep into EV6 stuff. Also, don’t forget to use the search function in this forum to find answers to any problems—you’ll be surprised how often the same questions pop up! Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks! I’ve already started looking around. I was curious about the 80% charge thing, and there’s a lot of good info here on that.

Nice! There are also plenty of posts about accessories and other useful things for the car.
I had to spend a few days getting used to mine. I came from a manual ICE car, so the EV6 feels quite different, though not in a bad way.
I’d recommend diving into the settings on the infotainment system. There are tons of options for driving modes, button functions, the sound system, etc. And the best part is you can do all of this while sitting in a climate-controlled car without wasting much energy!
Also, get used to planning for charging stops on long trips. Apps like ABRP (A Better Routeplanner) and Plugshare are helpful. I always keep a Level 1 charger with me too—you’d be surprised how many businesses will let you plug in if you ask nicely.
I’ve driven an E-Niro for four years and will soon be upgrading to the EV6. First piece of advice: enjoy the ride! Driving electric is so much better than ICE.
Make sure you have the latest software update, which you can download and install yourself from update.kia.com. You’ll need a big USB thumb drive.
Also, set up the charger filters for your preferred networks and speeds. The EV6 will help you plan routes and manage your battery range. If you ever run into trouble with a charger not working, call the service number—they can usually reset it remotely. This happens to me at Ionity sometimes, but the fix is quick.
One thing I learned the hard way: if you want the fastest DC charging, you need to preheat the battery. To do that, you have to set the charging station as your destination in the car’s navigation system. The car won’t preheat otherwise.
If it’s cold outside, plan on 20–30 minutes for preheating before charging.
If you’re sitting in the car for a while, either leave it in ‘ready to drive’ mode or use utility mode. Don’t stay in accessory mode for long—it can drain the 12V battery. And be careful not to overuse the app; it can drain the 12V too.
Enjoy the EV6! It’s an amazing car, and welcome to the future of driving.

My best advice? Make sure you’re the first car at a red light whenever you can be.

I didn’t understand this comment at first, but now, after a few days with the car, I TOTALLY get it!

Take time to try out all the different regen modes and give the adaptive cruise control a shot in slow traffic. It’ll brake and follow cars unless you stop for too long.

Check out the Cars Jubilee YouTube channel. They have some great videos explaining how the regen levels work.

If you own your home, install a charger. If you’re handy, pull some 6/3 cable, skip the plug, and wire in the charger directly. I love my Emporia 48a charger.
Set your home charger to 32a. Charging at 48a can be inconsistent, but 32a works well and charges the car overnight.
Get a NACS to J1772 adapter for charging. When Kias are compatible with Tesla superchargers, you’ll also want a NACS to CCS adapter. Keep both in your car.
Hotels often have NACS and J1772 chargers, but Tesla drivers sometimes take the J1772 slots with an adapter. Be prepared to return the favor if needed.
Buy a cargo cover from Amazon. I got the window shade one, and it’s great.
Stock up on USB-C cables and a couple of C-to-micro adapters. Your passengers will appreciate it.
