I’ve got the EV6 GT Line 2 (the top trim apart from the GT), and I’m struggling with the door buttons for user profiles.
The buttons don’t seem to do much beyond adjusting the mirrors. My wife and I have a big height difference, so when she’s used the car, it’s a hassle for me to get in. I’ve saved our seat settings by holding the buttons, so that part works. But the seat moves so far forward after her use that it hurts my shins, and I end up manually switching profiles in the settings. Sometimes the profile confirmation shows up automatically when I start the car, but other times it doesn’t, and I can’t figure out why.
The user profiles don’t seem tied to the buttons properly. The mirrors adjust, but that’s it. If the car is set to Profile 1, pressing Button 1 moves the seat into position, but it won’t switch to Profile 2 when I hit Button 2. The same thing happens in reverse if it’s on Profile 2. Isn’t the whole point of these buttons to handle this?
My wife drives the car a lot, and every time I get in, I feel like I’m about to get crushed. We’ve adjusted the “car off” position to be way back so I can at least get in, but when the seat starts moving with me in it, it’s painful and frustrating.
I asked the dealership, but they were as confused as I am. Anyone have advice on fixing this?
Yeah, the way the 1 and 2 buttons work with profiles is strange. It seems like each profile has its own set of 1 and 2 settings. You could probably set up both profiles the same way, but we haven’t bothered. We just use one profile now to keep things simple.
@Nathan
We had a similar issue. One time, my wife’s mother accidentally switched to her profile, and the car forgot everything, including the local language. We’ve stopped using profiles altogether and just rely on the 1 and 2 seat settings within a single profile. It’s weird, but it works for us.
I don’t know why they designed it this way. We’ve settled on using one profile too. Position 1 is my setting since I’m taller, and my wife uses Position 2. She just presses the button to move the seat up when she drives. It’d be great if the app let you pick your profile before starting the car, though.
@Randy
Same here. We use Position 1 for the taller person in both profiles. My husband uses his Profile 1 for his ideal seat setting, and I have a middle-ground setting that’s comfortable for me but still lets him get in. The 2 button is a backup for minor adjustments.
I did notice that you can’t change profiles without turning the car all the way on, which is annoying. If the seat is too far back, I have to stretch awkwardly to fix it, which feels like a future injury waiting to happen. At least we can always adjust manually with the seat controls if needed.
Quick question—are you checking the profile before hitting the button? I’ve forgotten to do that and ended up squished when it switched to my wife’s settings.
One suggestion is to set the “car off” position so the seat always goes all the way back when the door opens. You could also ask your wife to switch to your profile before getting out. Or, like others have said, stick to one profile with two seat positions for simplicity.
Same issue here. I’m 6’1" and my wife is 5’5". She drives most of the time, and her profile is the first one on the screen. When selected, it defaults to her Position 1. My seat setting is Position 2 on her profile, so I have to push that button just to get in. Then I switch to my profile (the second one on the screen), and both settings are for me there.
I also turned off the “easy entry” option because it would try to move back to her settings before I could change profiles. It was just too much of a hassle.
I know the pain… literally! One workaround we found is starting the climate control from the app before getting in. It seems to switch to your profile that way, so the seat is already in the right position.
