Anyone else having trouble with wireless CarPlay staying on when the car is off?

Here’s a fix: The USB-C port next to the USB-A port only powers on when the car is in accessory mode or turned on. So if you’re charging or just opened the car, the USB-C stays off.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter to connect your dongle to the USB-C port.
  2. Use the data/charge side of the cable for the USB-A port.

You’ll also need a power block to stop the USB-A port from always supplying power.

That’s exactly what I did, and it’s worked flawlessly. The wires are a bit messy, but I don’t even notice them anymore.

I got some angle adapters to help with the cable clutter. Makes it less noticeable.

Slightly off-topic, but did anyone get a recent software update for wireless CarPlay in the EV6? I’ve heard some owners in Australia and the Middle East received it.

I got an update a few weeks ago, but it didn’t add anything useful. Really hoping you’re right about this one though!

I couldn’t find anything to back this up, but I’m hoping someone has more info.

Using the Motorola wireless adapter solved this problem for me. It only connects when Bluetooth is active.

I got a dongle to make my CarPlay wireless, but when I turn the car off, the dongle stays powered and keeps connecting to my phone, which is super annoying since my car is parked near my living room. I have to unplug the dongle every time to stop it. Does anyone else have this problem? Any fixes?

This is probably your best bet: [Fast Charge Injection CarPlay Link]. Or check out this thread: [Kia EV Forum Solution Link]

I don’t think it’s possible to turn off the USB power. The port is powered by the radio, which stays on at random times. My wireless dongle stays connected even when the car is off, and my phone gets hijacked whenever I’m nearby.

I’ve had a wireless CarPlay dongle plugged in for months and haven’t had any issues with 12V power.

This might be a newer issue. My dashcam used to shut off a few minutes after I locked the car, but after the last software update, it stays on. I’ve had two low-voltage errors recently, and the car completely died, needing a jump start. I think the dashcam is draining the battery. It’s plugged into the USB-A port.

Do you charge your car at home? The ports stay powered while the car is charging, which makes the dongle keep searching for your phone. I’ve noticed the dongle gets really hot when this happens.

I have two EV6s, both with dongles, and I charge them at home too. Never had any issues with the phone trying to reconnect.

What brand dongle are you using? I think I picked the wrong one.

I’ve never used CarPlay. What does it do, and why do people like it?

It’s Apple’s way of letting you use your phone in the car. You can do things like navigation, play music, take calls, and send texts using the car’s screen.

Thanks! I think I’ll skip it. Sounds like it could be distracting.

Actually, CarPlay and Android Auto have safeguards to keep you from getting too distracted. For example, certain features get disabled while driving, like typing destinations or scrolling through music. It’s designed to keep you focused on the road.
