Anyone else struggling with speedometer visibility?

I’m 5’2" and currently drive a 2022 Niro EV. We test drove a 2024 EV6 (Light) last night, and I had a hard time reading the speedometer.

The numbers were blocked by the steering wheel, and adjusting it only made them barely visible at the edge. The speed limit icon was the same. The font was a low-contrast blue on black and smaller than I’m used to. In my Niro, it’s white on black, and the font is a lot larger. Overall, I had to actively search for the speed each time, which isn’t ideal.

This is the biggest issue I have with the car right now, and I’m only 85% sure I could get used to it. (I have some learning disabilities.) The salesperson didn’t think the UI could be changed, and we did check the visual theme settings.

Does anyone have suggestions? A seat or wheel position that worked for you? Or maybe you’re neurodivergent and found a way to adjust to something similar? Honestly, controlling speed can already be tricky for me because the EV gives so little feedback.

Blue on black sounds like you were in Eco or Normal mode with the display in dark mode. Switch to white/day mode, and that problem should go away.

You can also try raising the backrest and moving the seat back to lift your head height, but don’t sacrifice comfort just to see better.

@Gabriel
White mode was actually worse because the blue was even lighter. Sitting back more (instead of sitting up nervously) did help, so I’ll keep adjusting the seat angle. Thanks for the tip!

Ah, now I get it! If you’re sitting too straight, you’re probably too high. Try lowering the seat and moving it back, and bring the headrest forward so it still feels like you’re sitting up.

You could also switch to Sport mode—that will change the display text to red, which might have better contrast for you.

@Gabriel
I’ll definitely keep messing with the seat then! I’m not going to see the hood anyway since it curves down.

We have a digital display that could show pretty much anything, but we’re stuck with only one layout and three themes.

There should be a ‘clean’ option where the speedometer is centered on the display.

@abidemi
That’s one thing Tesla does right, allowing for more customization options.

I’m 5’9" and haven’t had any issues with the speedometer visibility. But I agree, its position isn’t great, and I’d love to have the option to move it to the center.

If you’re really having trouble, maybe consider getting a trim with the HUD (head-up display). You could even look at used models to get it cheaper since new ones can be pricey.

@Nathan
I wish you could swap the screens—put the info behind the wheel in the center and the other way around.

There’s a virtual display that projects onto the windshield.

Isn’t that only available on the GT-Line model?

Oh, could be. Haha. I’ve got a GT :man_shrugging:t4::joy:, didn’t even look at the other models when I bought it.

Yeah, it is. Maybe I should start considering used GT models then…

@jessicah
That’s exactly why I bought the GT, for the HUD and the ventilated seats.
