Can I use NACS charging if I have an adapter?

Maybe a dumb question, but here goes: since I can buy an adapter from A2Z for my EV6, could I quick charge now, or do I still need to wait until January 15? I saw someone mention an EV6 charging at a Tesla station—was it with a Magic Dock or just an adapter?

date.

Right now, you can only use a Tesla destination charger (Level 2) with the adapter. Superchargers won’t work yet—we’re waiting for the January 15 software update along with Kia’s official adapters.

Did Kia mention a software update? From what I’ve read, it’s Tesla handling the updates, and we should be able to use Superchargers with a third-party adapter starting January 15.

@jeff
I’d expect some integration work on Hyundai Motor Group’s end to make sure the onboard chargers can handle the Tesla network. I’d be surprised if it were only Tesla’s update.

Actually, eGMP cars can charge at 400V, though it’s slower (about 97kW max) because they have to boost the voltage to match the battery. No update needed for that.

@izael
I thought the Magic Dock was handling some kind of voltage adjustment, but if not, then there shouldn’t be an issue. That said, Ford pushed updates for Plug & Charge on their cars, which HMG cars don’t have yet.

@kwame
The Magic Dock is just a physical adapter—no voltage change. Ford’s update was for Tesla network integration with Plug & Charge compatibility. HMG cars don’t have that feature, though.

Yeah, the January 15 date has been confusing. I don’t get why it’s taking so long when Ford, Rivian, and even Volvo are already integrated.

@kwame
Two reasons: HMG negotiated a later start date, and Tesla’s Supercharger team had some staff changes after Musk made cuts. Things stalled for a while, but some of that expertise has been restored now.

Pretty sure the A2Z adapter mentioned only works with Superchargers (L3), not Level 2 destination chargers. A different adapter is needed for those.

To clarify: The Tesla Magic Dock adapter allows any CCS vehicle to charge at a Magic Dock Supercharger, provided you have the Tesla app. For non-Magic Dock Superchargers, Tesla must have an agreement with the car manufacturer. Kia’s agreement starts in January 2025, so using an A2Z adapter at a Supercharger today won’t work.

If a Magic Dock is active, you could charge. But I heard Tesla disabled some Magic Docks due to issues, so at the moment, Superchargers won’t work with your EV6.

A2Z sells two adapters—one for Level 2 destination chargers and one for Level 3 Superchargers. Since you mentioned January 15, I’m assuming you mean Supercharging. No, you can’t charge with an adapter right now. If you saw an EV6 at a Supercharger, it was likely using a Magic Dock adapter. For home or hotel destination chargers, the A2Z Level 2 adapter works fine on the EV6.
