I’m thinking of picking up a Hertz used Bolt. I currently have a 2015 VW e-Golf and a ‘dumb’ Bosch level 2 charger. My car will start to charge as soon as it’s plugged in, and go until it’s ‘full,’ stopping only when the car tells the charger to stop. It charges to 100% every time if you don’t manually interrupt it.
When we first got the car, there was an app that could control some things, but it required a subscription after the trial period, so we never used it.
Can the 2023 Bolt EV’s software control a max charge % and delay the start time for charging (e.g., start charging at off-peak hours)?
Can it do this without needing to pay a monthly/yearly fee to access this feature?
Yes, it’s all done through the car’s settings without any need for a subscription. It supports Time-of-Use rate plans (off-peak, mid-peak, peak hours), allowing you to charge only during off-peak times. The interface is straightforward too.
You can also set a minimum charge percentage (I have a 2022 Bolt EUV). For example, if your battery is below a certain level, it will start charging immediately, ignoring your off-peak schedule.
Yep, you can limit charging percentages and set schedules (like departure times or peak hours). It has lots of options for different energy billing plans.
The Bolt lets you set target charge and delay charging right on the infotainment screen without needing any phone app. It works perfectly fine that way.
