Charging Subscription in the UK

Hi everyone, I’m a new EV6 owner! While I’ll be doing most of my charging at home, I’ll need a reliable option for occasional long trips. Any recommendations for good charging service subscriptions in the UK? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I’m a new EV6 owner! While I’ll mostly be charging at home, I’m planning occasional long trips and was wondering if a charging service subscription is necessary. From what I’ve gathered, it’s useful to plan ahead using apps like Zap Map or A Better Route Planner to find suitable charging stations.

For discounts, the Gridserve app offers 20% off at their chargers. Octopus Electroverse can give you 8% off some suppliers if you’re on one of their energy tariffs, and the Elli card also has small discounts available. Are there any other tips or recommendations you’d suggest? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m a new EV6 owner! I’ll be charging mostly at home with OVO’s Charge Anytime app, where I pay 7p/kWh. For long trips, I’m looking for reliable charging options.

I’ve been using Zap Map and A Better Route Planner to find charging stations. Currently, the Gridserve app offers 20% off their chargers. Additionally, the Octopus Electroverse app has a 20% discount for charging at participating stations, which is handy for topping up on long journeys. Octopus Intelligent Go is great for home charging, offering 7p per kWh for 6 hours.

If you’re switching to Octopus from EON, be sure to use a referral code to get £50 credit each. I also use Tesla’s charging network when I’m out and about. Any other tips or recommendations? Thanks!

Nope. Not needed if it’s occasional long trips imo.

Who’s your electricity supplier?

I’m in the UK and use my Octopus card nearly everywhere. Admitting that not all places take it

Thanks. I have eon energy. Will check if they have something.

I should be getting my new car next week. How did you get this sub? Was it a specific dealership deal?

You might want to see if there’s a UK-specific EV owners group (similar to r/evs_ireland for the Irish) and get their recommendations. It’s not an issue limited to the EV6.

As a fallback, you can also look at getting a Kia Charge card. This gives you convenience as it will work with many paid chargers. However, you often end up paying a slight price premium over having the correct app for that charging company.

My electricity supplier is OVO, and I pay 7p/kWh using their Charge Anytime app for home charging. When I’m out and about, I use Tesla’s charging network. Tesla Charging Locations.

Not necessary to subscribe to anything for occasional trips. It’s well worth looking ahead on Zap Map or “A Better Route Planner” to see which charging stations you’d like to use- it can be useful to use the app from the supplier. Right now, using the Gridserve app gives you 20% off at their chargers. Octopus Electroverse offers 8% off some suppliers if you are on one of their energy tarrifs, and the Elli card has some small discounts as well.

Not a subscription, but Electroverse have an offer at the moment that if you pay for Charing using their app you get 20% off. Useful for long journeys when you need to top up at the services.

As mentioned the octopus Electroverse app also sometimes gives you a discount (they’re a great energy supplier and the Octopus Intelligent Go tarot is one of the best for EV charging at home, 7p per kW for 6 hours). If you do switch to Octopus from EON, make sure to tap someone up and get their referral code as you both get £50 credit.
