Decided on the Kia EV6 – Seeking Advice on Trim, Packages, and Discounts

After spending a full day test-driving the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and a few other EVs, we’ve decided on the EV6. Now we’re stuck choosing between the Wind and GT-Line trims and would appreciate some advice.

We’re in Texas, so if anyone knows of any specific regional considerations (like availability or incentives), that would be super helpful!

  1. Trim/Package Recommendations: For those of you driving the EV6, especially the Wind or GT-Line, what features do you love? Is the GT-Line worth the extra cost for its sportier feel and tech, or is the Wind a better deal? Also, any thoughts on RWD vs. AWD?

  2. 2025 Models: I see the 2025 models are coming soon. Should we wait for them, or are the changes not significant enough to delay a 2024 purchase?

  3. Negotiating Discounts: What kind of discounts or incentives should we push for? Any tips for haggling with dealerships in Texas? I’ve seen a lot of lease deals, but we’re leaning toward buying—thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any advice or input!

Update:

Thanks for all the recommendations! We ended up getting a lease deal on a GT-Line AWD and really enjoy it so far.

The Wind AWD with the Tech package is the best value, especially if you’re taller (over 6’), since the sunroof eats into the headroom a bit. The GT-Line’s automatic door handles are almost worth the extra cost, and it does look sportier. Definitely sit in both trims to see which seats feel better for you.

For reference, I’m 6’3" in the GT-Line, and the headroom hasn’t been an issue for me.

It might depend on your torso-to-leg ratio. People can be surprisingly different that way.

Good point! Seems to work for me, but I guess I’m built like a statue. :joy:

I saw a GT-Line recently with the sunroof open, and it looked like it lost a lot of headroom. The glass also didn’t look as high quality as I expected.

Do you really think the door handles are worth $5k? I wanted them too but couldn’t justify that price jump.

After 50k miles, I can say those handles would have been super helpful. My kids have pinched their fingers, and my elderly dad can’t figure out how to open the doors. Plus, the GT-Line’s front end just looks better. If I could go back, I’d get the GT-Line, especially since certified pre-owned models have a smaller price difference now. I’ve seen some GT-Lines with low mileage going for around $28-32k, which is a steal.

I rented an EV6 without the extending door handles and hated it. I’m so glad I went for the GT-Line. I’m also 6’ tall and love the sunroof, even in Seattle. It helps make the car feel less claustrophobic. For me, the GT-Line is worth every penny.

I’m 6’5”, and my son is too. We have plenty of headroom. I’d recommend the GT or GT-Line—fun to drive!

Drive both the RWD and AWD. The AWD is way faster if that matters to you, and of course, it’s better for winter driving. There won’t be any discounts on the 2025 models until they clear out the 2024 stock. I leased a 2023 GT for $385/month, zero down, 24 months with 12k miles/year. It was an amazing deal.

The 2025 models do have a better infotainment system, wireless CarPlay, and a slightly bigger battery. But I don’t care for the new front-end design, which is subjective, of course.

I own a 2022 GT-Line RWD. Unless you’re trying to drag race, the acceleration is still fantastic, and you get much better mileage with RWD. In Texas, you probably won’t need AWD for snow. I love the heads-up display, and the GT-Line’s design is sleek. I’m 6’4”, and I had to remove the grab handle, but otherwise, the car fits me well.

The 2025 models bring some great upgrades—bigger battery, better infotainment, and a rear wiper. The 2024s will probably get steep discounts soon.

They’re already discounted. I got a 2024 GT with $15,000 in rebates—$7,500 off purchase and another $7,500 for leasing.

I couldn’t live without AWD—it’s a must for me. I have the GT-Line, and it’s worth it. The auto door handles, sunroof, and sound system make it feel more premium. It’s my first new car in 15 years, so I splurged, but I don’t regret it!

If you love speed, the GT is absolutely wild! We smoked a Hellcat the other day—it’s crazy fun but does hit your mileage. Still, no range anxiety here, and our kids love it.

I smoked a Hellcat in my Wind AWD too! Just cut it off at 65 mph, and they can’t keep up!

We’re very happy with our GT-Line AWD. After driving Audis and Subarus, we wouldn’t go back to anything without AWD. It’s not just for snow—AWD helps in rain and dirt too. The HUD is fantastic, and I highly recommend ventilated seats for hot climates like Texas. Leasing was a great option for us, and we’ve been loving the car!

  1. The Wind with Tech package is great. The GT-Line adds HUD, auto door handles, and bigger wheels. I didn’t care for the sunroof or bigger wheels, so I stuck with the Wind. AWD is a must for me, especially with the heat pump.

  2. The 2025 models are nicer but likely not worth the discounts available on the 2024s. The upgrades—like a bigger battery, NACS port, and wireless CarPlay—are great, but maybe not worth the extra cost.

  3. Just know the fair market price, avoid unnecessary fees, and don’t be afraid to walk away. Mike Shaw Kia in Corpus Christi was good to deal with remotely, and I had my car shipped out of state.

We couldn’t be happier with our GT-Line. It’s a great driver, both in the city and in the mountains here in Colorado.
