I know you can never really tell how a previous owner treated it. I’m looking at a 2022 Wind AWD with the tech package, 46,000 miles, listed for $24k. Any thoughts or advice?
If it’s made it to 46k miles, it’s pretty clear it’s a solid car, right?
When I got my 22 Wind AWD back in May 2023, it had 26k miles. So far, it’s been completely reliable. Higher mileage cars have usually already dealt with any major issues. Just be sure to check for any technical service bulletins (TSBs) and ensure any recalls have been taken care of.

I’m not too familiar with TSBs. On the Carfax, it shows the car had its computer reprogrammed in September 2022 and then again in August 2023.

Those are probably related to software updates from recalls. Nothing too worrying if that’s the case.
For under $25k, you might qualify for the $4k used EV tax credit, dropping the price to around $20k. Definitely worth looking into.

Only if you buy it from a dealer that’s registered with the IRS for that tax credit. There are specific rules you need to check out before assuming you’ll get it. I missed out on it due to some fine print.

I was wondering about that. This car has had two previous owners. Does the tax credit apply only to the second owner or each time it’s sold?

It depends. If the car was sold before August 16, 2022, you might still be eligible. You can also look into KeySavvy for private sales: Get the Used EV Tax Credit When Buying Private Party | KeySavvy

The Carfax shows the first owner in June 2022, then the second in May 2024. When I called, the dealer quoted $25,300 instead of the listed $24,800. A few hours later, the listing also updated to $25,300, pushing it out of tax credit range. My guess? The dealer probably bought it, claimed the credit, and now is reselling it.

Actually, dealerships can’t claim the credit. You may still qualify if you can talk them down under $25k. I’d call and ask if they’re registered for the credit, might be worth a shot.

I’ll give it a try. It’s a two-hour drive, so I’d rather not make the trip unless I’m sure it’s worth it. If I do go, I’ll need them to deliver since I’m not trading in my current car.

When I first checked, the car was listed at $24,800. Then I called, and suddenly it’s $25,300. Seems kinda shady.
You can check battery health and how many DC fast charge sessions it’s had using an OBD scanner. Any major issues should still be covered under warranty.
That’s a great deal. I bought mine used with 20k miles on it. It had some minor cosmetic damage that was touched up, but I actually prefer that I didn’t have to stress about being the first to scratch it! Plus, I didn’t take the hit from depreciation. So far, all recall work has been easy, and I’m still amazed every time I park it.

There’s a dealer near me with GT-Line models for around $25k, but they have hail damage. I’m tempted since the warranty’s still good, and I don’t really care about a few dents if the car drives well.

I’d go for it. Hail damage just adds character, as long as everything else is in good shape.
Without interest, a 4-year loan on that would be around $500/month with no down payment. For comparison, I’m paying about $600/month for a lease here in Maryland.

It’s still under warranty. Is it certified pre-owned (CPO)? I overpaid for mine with 13k miles during the pandemic—paid $43k. Ouch.
