Inputting destination for more accurate range

This might be obvious to some, but after owning my car for a year, I just realized that inputting the destination in the navigation system makes the estimated range more accurate. I found this out after entering my home address when leaving an event and noticing the range adjusted after I did.

I ran an experiment this week by entering my address on my daily commute—once for a highway route and once for local roads. I compared the remaining range after the drive. For the highway route, it was +1 mile, and for the local roads, it was -2 miles.

My round trip is about 64 miles on the highway and 58 miles on local roads. When I mapped out the local route, the estimate didn’t change much, but when I mapped the highway route, the estimate dropped by 7 miles. So, when I drive the highway without using navigation, the estimated range is overstated by 7 miles—14 miles for a round trip.

Yep, that’s because connected routing takes traffic, weather, temperature, and elevation into account.

Interesting… are there a lot of stops on the local roads? You might be getting more charge back through regen.

Even with regen, it’s still more efficient not to stop at all than to stop and recover some charge.

What’s your estimated range at 100% lately?

I have the Wind AWD, and the last time I charged to 100%, I got 272 miles. I mostly drive on local roads since I use public transportation often. My battery state of health (SOH) is 96.7% with 25k miles on the car.

@zendaya
I got similar range with my GT-Line AWD on a big road trip last week, even though its official range is only 252 miles. I was pleasantly surprised to get 10% more, and at freeway speeds too.

Absolutely love this car.
