I’m considering getting a used EV6, either a 2022 or 2023 model. From what I’ve seen on Consumer Reports and Edmunds, there don’t seem to be any big differences between the model years. But I know they don’t always catch everything.
Are there any downsides to going with the 2023? Any features or issues I should be aware of?
Not much changed from 2022 to 2024. The 2024 got a charging door light and a different Qi charger material. There was a firmware update for the ICCU to fix 12v battery drain in 2023. If you’re getting a certified pre-owned (CPO) 2023, the firmware should already be updated as part of the process.
One advantage of the 2023 is that it gives you an extra year of warranty compared to a 2022. Also, the 2023 AWD models got a heat pump, which is handy for cold climates.
I wouldn’t pay too much extra for the 2023, but I do wish my 2023 had the charging door light from the 2024 model. My garage light doesn’t reach the charging port well, so I usually use my phone’s flashlight to help at night when plugging in.

You can try placing your hand over the charge indicator lights at an angle. That works for me and lights up the port well enough. Sometimes those lights are so bright they make it hard to see the port!

I tried that trick tonight and it actually worked! Thanks!

Save some money and get the 2022. I have one, and it still feels like a brand new car. There’s not much difference between the years.

I drive a 2022 Wind model. I feel like we were the test group for Kia to improve things on newer models. I had my 12v battery and amplifier replaced under warranty. The thing no one tells you is that you’ll go through tires faster. Also, the charging network isn’t what it could be, and charging costs about the same as gas in my experience.
It took me a while to really fall in love with the EV6. I used to drive a Prius, and I miss it, especially in winter. But for someone like me who drives over 100 miles a day, the EV6 is amazing in terms of comfort, acceleration (can’t resist the speed), and I love the surround cameras for safety.
