So, according to the specs, my EV6 should be capped at 114mph, but I managed to hit 120mph. Does anyone know why? Is this normal, or did I miss something in the manual?
The car is speed-limited by the onboard computer. It controls how fast the vehicle can go, but there can be some leeway.

I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were asking why it stops at 114. It could actually go higher, maybe even well past 120, if not for the limiter.

I’ve heard the EV6 GT’s front motor is the same as the rear motor moved to the front. There could be some tweaks we don’t know about, but yeah, the GT tops at 162mph. I bet they limit the speed to 120 on other models because of the tires not being rated for anything higher.

Totally. ICE cars have limiters too, but in electric vehicles, it’s more about tires and motor RPM. I bet someone will bypass the limiters eventually to see just how fast these cars can really go.

Still, it doesn’t add up for the EV9. Maybe these cars aren’t maxing out their motor RPM as much as we think.
Speedometers aren’t always super accurate, and can be off by up to 5% depending on factors like tire pressure and temperature. So, if your car says it’s doing 120, it might really be closer to 114. EVs also have electronic limiters, but they’re not 100% precise either.
Could you have been going downhill or had a strong tailwind? That could easily boost your speed a little.
Are the tires speed-rated for more than 114mph? That could be why it’s limited.
I think some people are missing your point. You’re saying the car should be limited to 114mph, but you hit 120mph. In the US, the limit is 118mph, so with a tailwind or slight downhill, 120 isn’t surprising.

Why does it matter if it goes 114 or 120? You shouldn’t be driving that fast anyway. Just enjoy your EV6 responsibly, no need to push it to the limit.
