“Kia America will soon offer North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its EV6 and EV9 models. Customers who pick up a 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 Kia EV6 from September 4, 2024, onwards will get the adapter for free. This adapter will give access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the U.S., with deliveries starting in early 2025. But if you got your EV6, EV9, or Niro EV before that date, you’ll need to buy the adapter from a dealer at a later time. The DC fast chargers should be accessible from January 15, 2025.”
Looks like early buyers are getting left behind again…
Anyone have recommendations for a good adapter?
I got one from Lectric off Amazon. It’s compact and works great for charging with my Tesla wall connector.
Does it work with Superchargers too? I only need it for road trips, my home setup is fine.

Nope, it doesn’t. I’m not sure if the NACS adapter Kia announced will work with Superchargers either. Tesla still needs to make them compatible with Kia. Maybe I missed that part in the announcement.

I think part of the January update includes car-to-charger communication for billing. Right now, I’d need to manage it all through the Tesla app.

For what it’s worth, they did say earlier this year that the adapters would be available in Q1 2025. But they never mentioned they’d be free, so I kind of expected a cost. I was hoping they’d be like Ford and make them free for everyone, though.
This is the kind of thing that makes me hesitate to recommend a Kia EV over Tesla or Ford.

It’s crazy how they keep messing up what could have been the perfect EV for a lot of people.
