“Kia America will soon offer North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its EV6 and EV9 models. Customers who pick up a 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 Kia EV6 from September 4, 2024, onwards will get the adapter for free. This adapter will give access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the U.S., with deliveries starting in early 2025. But if you got your EV6, EV9, or Niro EV before that date, you’ll need to buy the adapter from a dealer at a later time. The DC fast chargers should be accessible from January 15, 2025.”
Looks like early buyers are getting left behind again…
Let me get this straight… As an early Kia EV6 owner, I’ll need to pay for an adapter, only got one year of Kia Connect Ultimate for free (while newer buyers get three years), and I had to buy my own portable charger? Feels like I’ve been beta testing this car for them with no extra perks.

And Hyundai owners got three years of unlimited fast charging at Electrify America, while we only got 1000 kW for free. Feels unfair.

Wait, 3 years of free charging?!
Well, it’s unlimited for the first 30 minutes, then you have to wait an hour between charges. My brother got an Ioniq 5, and that’s the deal he has.

It’s actually 2 years for most buyers. The 3 years was only for people who reserved their car almost a year in advance.

It’s really messed up. Seems like they mixed up the dates, but this is how the auto industry works.

Anyone know if this applies in Canada too? We’re planning to buy an EV9 in spring 2025.
If you’re buying in spring 2025, you might be in time for the NACS version of the EV9.
Unlikely. The new model year usually comes out in late August or early September. The 2025 models are already listed on Kia Canada’s website with a CCS port. You might have to wait until the 2026 model in August 2025, and even then, who knows if they’ll redesign it by then.

Anyone have recommendations for a good adapter?
I got one from Lectric off Amazon. It’s compact and works great for charging with my Tesla wall connector.
