New EV6 owner… dumb question?

Hey there,

I just bought a 2022 EV6 GT-Line and I’m super excited! The car came with a charging connector but no actual cable. The connector has a J1772 plug on one end and a regular three-prong wall outlet on the other. What is this for? Am I missing a cable or something?

That’s actually the vehicle-to-load (VTL) adapter, which lets you use your EV6 as a mini generator! You can power small things if you’re camping or during a power outage.

But for charging your car, you’ll need to get an actual charging cable. I started with a basic Level 1 charger from Amazon, and later upgraded to a Level 2 charger.

My dealer told me in 2022 that the car didn’t come with a charging cord. At first, I thought it was just a cheap $50 extension cord, but then they said it was a $700 Chargepoint Flex 50 Amp wall charger! They included it in the loan. Later, I found out that many Level 2 chargers are way cheaper on Amazon—brands like Lectron, Grizzl-E, Autel, and more. The one they sold me was one of the priciest. It was backordered too, so I didn’t get it until January 2023, a few months after buying the car in October. While waiting, I got a smaller 30A portable charger, and it worked fine until the Chargepoint arrived. Also, we used up our 1000 free Electrify America hours that came with the EV6 Wind.
