Fun fact – you can get washer fluid as solid tablets on Amazon. Just mix with water, and it’s dirt cheap since you’re not paying to ship the water.
But how much are you saving? Like a few bucks a year?

@chozen
Not much, but that’s about all the maintenance needed! I skipped my ID.4’s 25k service after seeing what little they did at the 15k check.
@chozen
Might not save much, but still convenient.
@izael
But ‘screen clean’ has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
@izael
And it costs $3 per fill or less.

Or just use water in summer, lol.

Some people have gotten Legionnaires’ disease doing that. Just stick to the real stuff.
@Gabriel
Wait, how does that happen? Are they drinking it?

Believe it or not, it’s happened through inhaling aerosols. Here’s an article on it.
Drivers using water in place of washer fluid have caught Legionnaires’ disease from aerosolized bacteria in the water.
@Howard
Yep. The water goes bad, you spray it, and inhale the spores. Not worth it.

Yeah, I’ll just pay a few bucks for washer fluid – much more effective than plain water anyway.

Better not. Limescale can clog things up.
I refill 3-4 times a year, about $10 worth – and Tesla tops it off for free.
@Connie
Never had that issue. But I don’t keep cars long. Our company fleet burns through cases of fluid monthly!
@izael
Screen wash is common in many countries where it’s a ‘windscreen,’ not a ‘windshield.’

But shouldn’t it be wind shield? Isn’t that what it’s doing?

But don’t Americans have ‘bug screens’? Anyway, ‘windscreen’ was used about 100 years before ‘windshield’ came around.
@Imani
Do we call it a bug screen? I think we just call it a screen.

Every time I’m in Europe, I notice windows open without screens – guess there aren’t as many bugs there as here.
@Imani
So would you say ‘screen’ for this sentence: ‘She raised her hand to screen her eyes from the light’?
Or would you use ‘protect’ or ‘shield’?

Hey, I’m not the one who said someone’s words were wrong – just pointing out that ‘windshield’ is a regional version. No harm meant.
