New Hyundai EV owner, amazed by a yearly service requirement?

@izael
You mean ‘screen wash.’

What the heck? That sounds so pointless.

All I do regularly is tire alignment and rotation.

And top off washer fluid – that’s it.

Home Depot or Walmart sells a jug for $3-4. It’s easy to fill yourself! I just get my tires rotated and that’s it.

Unless you’re driving like a maniac, why would you need regular alignment? I’ve gone 300k miles with no need.

@Michael
Tesla Model 3 suspensions struggle with rough roads.

Then Tesla should probably fix that.

True. But how many Model 3s are really on unpaved roads? Probably a tiny percentage.

@Michael
Live in a city with regular snow? Alignments become necessary.

Hyundai’s manual has a list of maintenance items.

Most are just checks to make sure everything’s running okay. It’s probably a good idea to let a mechanic take a look at the brakes once in a while, just to make sure everything’s wearing evenly.

The only thing I know of that’s actual maintenance is the low conductivity coolant in the Ioniq 5. Some of their newer EVs may not even use it.

True, $220 is high for alignment. Some places quoted me $160 for my EV because it’s heavier. But tire alignment on EVs really is important to avoid extra wear and costly fixes later on.

Unless there’s a software update needing a dealer visit, absolutely not. Tire shops will lube the hinges for free if you ask when you get an alignment.
