New tires: 101H vs 105V?

I need new tires for my Wind AWD, and the current set says 101H. I’m leaning towards getting the Hankook ion tires since they seem highly recommended. However, I noticed they come in 105V, and I want to make sure there’s no significant difference.

From what I understand, ‘V’ is a higher speed rating than ‘H,’ so it’s rated for higher speeds, which is fine. But does this affect anything else, like ride comfort, noise, or traction in the rain?

Just to give you some perspective—my GT-Line AWD has OEM Continental 20" tires with a 105H load rating. I don’t think running tires with a slightly higher load rating (105 vs. 101) is a big deal, but you should still shop around for the best brand/type that fits your needs.

Just a heads-up: I’ve had trouble balancing my Hankook ion tires. After three shops tried, I’m still getting a shudder at 75 mph.

For reference, the Wind AWD tops out at 190 km/h:

  • T: 190 km/h
  • H: 210 km/h
  • V: 240 km/h

Higher speed and load ratings usually mean stiffer tires, which can lead to a less comfortable ride.
