Test drove some EVs yesterday... my first time driving an EV, might not be the most exciting post

Thinking of replacing my wife’s CR-V Hybrid and wanted to share some thoughts on the EVs I checked out.

Mach E: Didn’t drive it because I couldn’t get into the back seat without bumping my head on the door frame.

Chevy Equinox: Smaller on the outside than the CR-V, which my wife liked. Quiet and drove nicely. However, it wasn’t much cheaper than the Ioniq 5. Two issues: I couldn’t find a comfortable driving position, though my wife was fine. And driving into the sun caused dashboard glare on the windshield—felt like looking through a mesh screen, which was a deal breaker for me.

Ioniq 6: Skipped driving it due to a similar back seat issue as the Mach E.

Ioniq 5: This might be the one. Right size for us, easy to get in and out of, quiet, and drove well. My wife thought it was super comfortable. Now we just need to find one in a color other than white, black, or gray, and hopefully get a decent deal.

That’s it for my impressions. Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

You test the back seats first? :joy:

Maybe his wife does most of the driving, so he’s making sure the back seat is comfy for him!

Haha, my wife skips the back seat and puts me in the trunk.

He’s probably just making sure the back seat is usable for more… personal reasons. :wink:

Those days are long gone, my friend.

Only in parking lots, you know what I mean.

You can call me Hightower.

@Nathan
Ah, someone who gets the reference. And yeah, he probably needs the back seat for hauling flowers or something.

Maybe he’s testing for when his son drives him around. :smile:

Smart move checking all the seats before committing to a car!

Equinox EV is not smaller than a CR-V. It’s a bit shorter but is wider and longer.

CR-V: 185" length, 73.5" width
Equinox: 192" length, 77" width

It’s clearly a bigger car. Did OP even check the specs?

@Michael
We just parked them side by side. Didn’t break out a ruler. My wife felt it was close enough. The Blazer seemed even bigger.

If size matters, the Ioniq 5 is closer to the CR-V. Stick with that and don’t let anyone push you toward something you don’t want.

Sometimes it’s about how the size feels, not the actual measurements. :wink:

So… it’s shorter, but also longer? Thanks for clarifying. :sweat_smile:

If the wife feels it’s smaller, that’s what matters. Facts don’t win arguments in relationships. :joy:

If you like the Ioniq 5, you should also check out the Kia EV6. Same drivetrain but with different styling and driving feel.
