I’m looking at getting a home charger installed for my new EV. The layout of my house means I’m considering an untethered charger as I need a longer cable.
Articles I’ve read online say I need to unplug both ends of the cable after use. Is that true? Can I leave the charger-end plugged in when not in use and wrapped around the unit (a Zappi)?
Edit: Forgot to add an important detail. The layout also means I want to put the charger in my garage and have a separate cable holster outside (so I don’t want to keep having to open the garage door to plug in the charger end of the cable).
I have an untethered ‘charger’ and regularly leave the cable (springy coil) looped over the top of the device. Not aware of any issues. It’s a Zappi too.

I have an Easee charging unit and leave it plugged into the charger unit all the time. Only once have I ever unplugged it because the charger had an error, so I was troubleshooting. We’ve had the Easee charging unit for a year and charge at home all the time.
The only reason I could think to unplug it from the charger is if some random person could come along and use your charger.

Thanks - reassuring and good to know! We’re tucked away from the street so random people trying to use our charger shouldn’t be a problem!
I’ve also seen various locks to secure the car-end of the charge cable if you don’t want to keep unplugging the wall end but also don’t trust people. It’s a solved problem.
I used a portable charger for the first few months I had my car and always left it plugged in my garage. Only issue was it would start to work itself loose from the outlet and then I’d be surprised when my car didn’t charge. But I don’t think this will be an issue for you.
