Who really sets the price for Chargepoint stations at apartments?

The Chargepoint stations at my apartment complex are way overpriced, and when I talked to management about it, they claimed they don’t control the rates and it’s up to Chargepoint. But when I checked the Chargepoint website, they say they don’t set the prices either. So who’s actually in charge of the pricing here? Is my apartment management lying to me, or is there something else going on that I’m missing?

Chargepoint definitely doesn’t set the rates. It sounds like the management might be referring to the costs they incur from their contract with Chargepoint. They could be passing those costs on to you through the higher prices.

It could be that the building management has no direct say if it’s controlled by a corporate owner. Sometimes these things are decided by someone higher up, like a back-office team or another department that handles contracts.

The property owner is the one setting the price, not Chargepoint. The only time management wouldn’t have control is if they’re leasing the chargers to another company that operates them. That company could be setting the rates and paying rent to your building for the space.
