Another all-EV household

We’ve finally transitioned to being an all-EV household! The journey started with the first plug-in Prius, followed by a couple of i3 REx’s, a Bolt, another i3 REx, and now we have a Niro EV, Polestar 2, and Mach-E GT.

We’ve had a few gas cars along the way, but I recently traded in my beloved Volvo V60 for the Mach-E. With my 600-mile weekly commute, the savings are going to be significant. Just wanted to share our journey!

I’m happy for you!

Thanks! My partner thinks we might need to rent a car for road trips now, but half the fun is finding chargers along the way!

Places like Pilot, Flying J, Travel America, Buc-ee’s, and Walmart are installing chargers. Things have improved a lot over the past year.

I occasionally road trip in my Bolt EUV. Planning and charging can be an adventure! The slower charging on the Bolt makes trips take longer, but I enjoy focusing on each 90-120 mile segment. Staying under 300-400 miles a day and finding hotels with chargers makes it manageable. I’m even taking my Bolt for our Thanksgiving trip this weekend!

I briefly owned a Lyriq but returned it due to quality issues. I’m eager to road trip an EV, though—it sounds like an adventure! Our next car is an EV, likely a Wagoneer S.

@diallo
You’re brave for trying Stellantis! Best of luck with the Wagoneer—it looks great. After my Bolt issues, I’m done with GM.

We’ve had good luck with Stellantis vehicles over the last 12 years. My personal vehicles are a Gladiator and an Alfa 4C. Fingers crossed for the Wagoneer!

@diallo
I wish I could fit in a 4C! A friend has an 8C, and it’s absolutely stunning.

The 1.75L in the 4C isn’t bad, but the V8 in the 8C is something else entirely!

Luckily, my friend works for Ferrari, so servicing the 8C is a bit easier for him.

@diallo
With the right EV, road tripping isn’t an adventure—it’s just normal.

Depends on the trip. At 80 mph to remote trailheads with bikes loaded, it’s still an adventure.

Doesn’t the Polestar have supercharger access? The Ford does for sure. Renting isn’t worth the cost to save 15 minutes. If you’re already stopping for food or bathroom breaks, you won’t notice the charging time.

@sorphia
Yes, both cars do. My partner just isn’t quite sold yet. You’re right—15 minutes for a splash and dash isn’t a big deal!

We’ve had a Volt and now a Bolt EUV, sometimes both at the same time. My wife wanted an SUV, so we ended up with an ICE one. Now I hate putting gas in it, and we always prefer taking the Bolt when we go out. I’m even driving the Bolt for Thanksgiving!

We just became an EV/plugin hybrid household with a Bolt and a Tucson. Would’ve gone full EV if we’d found an affordable AWD option. The Tucson looks like the Bolt’s big sibling!

GM is stepping up with EV SUVs. My Mach-E had $14K in rebates!

@Howard
That’s awesome! How’d you get $14K in rebates?

I’d love to go all-EV, but I still need a truck. My ‘93 Ford Ranger runs on good old gas.
